It was a very proud evening for the Destroyers Family last night at the FNS Award Banquet. It was great to watch our kids on stage with pride in their eyes receiving recognition for their hard work. As a testament to the Destroyers overall mantra and conduct, my pride in our organisation grew beyond the kids. Shaun Robinson, a former Destroyer who has worked up through the ranks received the CIS Player of the Year Award and was present with many supporters to receive the honor. A true testament to the Destroyers attitude both on and off the field – Thank you Shaun!
Additionally, someone who’s accomplishments are too numerous to mention, Randy Rudel was awarded the Doug Quackenbush Coach of the Year , and for the first time ever , also received the Doug Q. Community Award.
On the side of boasting – this is the second year in a row that the Doug Q. Coach of the year has come to our organisation as Lou Velocci, again who’s accomplishments has a broad range ,was the recipient last year.
I hope you share my sentiments that being part of an organisation that fosters such a level of respect for the game and their chosen organisation carries its kids through the ranks to notoriety and retains the highest of levels of coaches and mentors is something to be thankful for. I know I am.
It is an organisation such as this that enables our kids to see and understand the skills and commitment to becoming leaders in their community. And just to be perfectly clear, this pride is NOT simply for the ones that received awards last night or any other. It is for ALL involved in making this THE Organisation to aspire to in Nova Scotia’s Minor Football. The Kids, Coaches, Volunteers, Parents, and supporters.
