Mites Game info
-by
Martel Thompson
Last Saturday morning the Dartmouth MITES played the Bedford
Mites at the Bedford Ranges for the second time this season. The
early morning game was well attended by parents, friends and
family.
The first game began with the Dartmouth Destroyer kicking off to
the Saints, before Branden Thompson led the vaunted Dartmouth
defense on to the field dressed in their sharp black jerseys
with red numbers gleaming.
Cameron Hunter and Branden led the rest of the Dartmouth squad
as they pushed the Saints back, before Mitchell Tufts led the
offense onto the field and promptly handed the ball off to Brady
Avery for 40 yards of hard running to the house.
Although, the Saints evened the score Jayce Patterson and Daniel
Velocci anchored the defensive o-line making it next to
impossible for the Saints to run their Quarterback sneak which
had provided them with earlier success.
Dartmouth middle linebacker Branden "the terror" Thompson noted
"We gave it everything we had on defense but that QB sneak was
giving us problems early on...we knew that Mitchell would come
through for us."
Mitchell would lead the offense to two more scores passing a
touchdown to Branden on a screen play, before scampering in for
one of his own on a broken play.
The Destroyers would finish off the game with a goal-line
stance, before giving up three cheers for the Saints and joining
them for free hotdogs and pop.
"This
is all about the kids," said Coach Peter Tufts, "it's great to
see them out here doing the things that they learned throughout
the week.
Following the first game the Destroyers Team 2 dressed in their
black and red uniforms took on a tough Saints team dressed in
their gold jerseys and played a highly completive game, which
allowed the young players to execute many of the skills and
drills they learned in practice.
These two teams will play again this weekend at Portland Estates
Elementary school.
